AstroEdu 2025

The AstroEdu Conference series which launched in 2019 showed that there is a need for a conference dedicated to bringing together researchers and practitioners from the astronomy, astronomy education, general education and other communities.

This third conference celebrates two decades since the publication of “Teaching and Learning Astronomy: Effective Strategies for Educators Worldwide” and in doing so looks at the rich diverse perspectives in astronomy education from across the world. This event brings together two major astronomy education conferences AstroEduCon and RTSRE to reflect on the past 10 years, and look ahead a decade.

AstroEdu Series

Astronomy education has grown significantly in recent decades. More academic and practitioner groups are publishing research articles. However, there is no regular international conference for researchers and practitioners to share their work. This meeting aims to be the first in a series of biennial IAU Commission C1 Astronomy Education Conferences. Its goal is to improve the quality, quantity, community, and impact of astronomy education.

The conference will unite astronomers, education researchers, and practitioners. They will discuss challenges, share ideas, and explore common issues. Topics will include theoretical research and practical applications. Participants will focus on applying research findings in real-world settings, guided by standards, curriculum, and instruction. The event will also review astronomy education outcomes from the IAU Strategic Plan 2010–2020. Additionally, it will address strategies for meeting the next plan’s goals.

Conference Themes

* Theory and Methodology – Highlighting the developments and innovations in research methodologies and theoretical perspectives.

* Research and Practice – Highlighting the innovations in bringing astronomy into the classroom and beyond.

* Looking ahead – Learning from the past, building the present, and looking forward to the future
